The U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy is a part of The NCO Leadership Center of Excellence and is responsible for the Sergeants Major Course. The USASMA falls under Army University for Academic Governance.

The U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy was founded in July 1972, and graduated its first students in 1973. Since that time, The NCOL CoE & USASMA has graduated more than 120,000 Soldiers from various Noncommissioned Officer Education System courses, and continually adapts to meet the needs of our nation’s defense. On June 22, 2018, USASMA became a part of The NCO Leadership Center of Excellence. The Center is headed by a three-star level nominative command sergeant major and is supported by a world-class staff and academic faculty. The NCOL CoE & USASMA is responsible for developing, maintaining, teaching, and distributing five levels of Enlisted Professional Military Education – Introductory, Primary, Intermediate, Senior and Executive.
